ID: 1136 POSITION SUMMARY Under general direction, performs and
coordinates timely underwriting of existing and prospective groups
and monitors the overall membership, utilization, and premium
revenue against established targets. Analyzes and presents reports
illustrating the factors impacting overall enrollment and
utilization trends. Recommends underwriting strategy and provider
fee changes for HDS based on overall pricing strategy. ESSENTIAL
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Produces accurate and timely employer group rate proposals that
adhere to existing underwriting policies and guidelines, including
supporting reports. Partners with Sales to provide appropriate
information that will increase the likelihood of success in
renewing existing groups and acquiring new groups. As needed,
support Sales on customer and broker/consultant meetings, calls,
and other communication. Conduct peer review on select group
rating. Directly handles and/or oversees the most complex requests
for proposals (RFPs), e.g., State and medical partners.
- Serves as the company's specialist on pricing and underwriting
matters relating to premiums established for various plans.
Continuously improves the efficiency and accuracy of the rating
model (e.g., adding or modifying rating factors, rules, and
methodologies). Ensures that the outcome of the model delivers the
expected results. Designs and recommends changes to improve the
efficiency of the processes including increasing automation of
group renewals. Assists in establishing and maintaining consistent
methodologies and reports across all team members.
- Assists department leadership in developing annual plan and
strategies, tactics, and resources necessary to achieve targets and
goals for the department. Also assists in prioritizing pricing
related projects to ensure all project deadlines are met.
- Peer reviews other analysts' underwriting and reporting
methodology and results for projections of underwriting
gains/losses. Analyzes and explains differences between actual and
projected underwriting experience. Acts as a mentor for other team
members by developing their underwriting, analytical, and project
management skills.
- Monitors trends in utilization and fees, and competitive data.
Conducts and/or reviews provider fee calculations based on
established methodology. Recommends changes to fee calculation
methodology as needed. Determines impact to trend factor with
changes in fee schedule. Reviews analysis and recommendations with
department and organization leadership.
- Prepares ad hoc reports for groups, providers, consultants,
DDPA and others internally and externally.
- Prepares and/or reviews individual and small group rating
methodologies. Prepares and coordinates documents for regulatory
filings.
- Other Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assists with the design, writing, maintenance and production of
departmental manuals, including but not limited to standard
operating procedures, process flow charts, and user manuals.
- Supports sales efforts for development and implementation of
new services and products.
- Assists Accounting and Finance Department with analysis for
various types of reporting including but not limited to the annual
budget, financial audit, and Board reporting.
- Assist the department leader with special projects. MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE Education Bachelor's degree in
mathematics, actuarial science, data analytics, economics,
statistics, finance, business administration or equivalent in
education, experience or training. Experience Five (5) years of
progressive experience in rating, underwriting, actuarial or
related field with background in group rating for health or dental
insurance, or the equivalent in an analytical role that included
conducting detailed analysis using databases. Strong knowledge of
Microsoft Excel and Word. Working knowledge of programming
techniques such as SQL and statistical analysis preferred. Skills
and Knowledge
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel. Preferred
experience in writing queries using Oracle SQL or other programming
language. Preferred knowledge in the use of Microsoft PowerPoint
and Crystal Reports.
- Ability to organize, analyze and solve complex problems.
- Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks with some
distractions.
- Ability to focus on details. -
- Ability to communicate both orally and in writing with all
levels of staff, customers, consultants/brokers, and vendors on
sensitive matters.
- Technical knowledge to learn and understand computer
applications for problem-solving and answering staff questions
(prefer Windows, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). Note : The above
