  • Manages the university's official social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube, as well as the content that is shared on these platforms
  • Makes final determination as to what material will be shared on official university social accounts
  • Produces a monthly social media report that tracks all traffic and trends regarding the University's social media efforts to be shared directly with the University President and President's Council
  • Manages the round the clock, seven-days-a-week monitoring of BYU-Hawaii's social media accounts
  • Monitors, moderates, responds to, and deletes comments on social accounts as needed
  • Creates, maintains, and promotes guidelines for all units of the university that engage in social media
  • Chairs the university's Social Media Committee, providing training, coordinating the University's social media efforts, and determining social media guidelines for the university, such as consistency with comments policies and coordinated messaging
  • Will develop BYU-Hawaii Social Squad, which involves finding students each year and organizing their efforts
  • Serves as the university's main point of contact with the Church for social media communications, campaigns, concerns
  • Carries out all communication with social media companies-Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube, etc.
  • Hires, trains, and supervises student employees assigned to work on social media projects.Media Relations (30%)
    • Directs efforts in uncovering newsworthy stories across campus. Is the lead storyteller for BYU-Hawaii.
    • Makes final determination on what topics will be covered
    • Handles the writing of all positive news media materials
    • Conducts in-depth interviews with administrators, deans, and faculty
    • Writes press releases, facts sheets, newsroom stories, and other communications pieces, including media announcements and pitch stories to appropriate media outlets
    • Conducts in-depth interviews with deans, administrators, and faculty to formulate strategic messages
    • Edits the work of other campus communicators and student writers
    • Creates, plans, and supervises public information campaigns for major events that merit news coverageOther duties as assigned (10%)
      • Writes and edits speeches, devotional addresses, news releases, op-eds, official university statements, quotes, talking points, magazine articles, and other printed and spoken materials
      • Serves as social media consultant to members of President's Council
      • Manages media during a crisis
      • In the Assistant to the President's absence, speaks on camera, on the air, or on the record for the universityEducationBachelors degree in marketing, communications, advertising, journalism, public relations, or a related field required.Work ExperienceTwo to four years of relevant experience in a communications or marketing environment, with strong project management skills. Previous higher ed marketing experience preferred. Other Skills & Abilities
        • Demonstrated computer competency with social media tools and other marketing resources, such as photo editing software, email marketing services, and analytics reporting software
        • Exceptional grammar, spelling and proofreading skills with knowledge of AP style
        • Video and photo editing skills
        • Self-starter able to work independently and entrepreneurially. Experience creating, developing, and implementing new initiatives.
        • Must be metrics-driven and results-oriented with demonstrated analytical skills
        • Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressurePhysical DemandsNormal air conditioned office environment conditions.
