DescriptionPOSITION SUMMARY: The Educational Director has the responsibility to successfully lead all areas of the daily operations of the Preschool at The Salvation Army Kona Ohana Keiki Preschool. The Director will provide leadership and direction in the continuing development and operation of an effective, fully licensed, accredited, cutting edge and Christ-centered program in an efficient and consistent manner. The Director will have a deep commitment to the mission of The Salvation Army, which will be evident in his or her professional life and the manner in which he or she represents The Salvation Army Ohana Keiki Preschool.REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:1. Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education or Education or related field.2. Current CPR and First Aid Cards.3. Minimum two - five years of teaching experience.4. At least two years management experience5. Experience with licensed programs and related requirements6. Experience with accreditation processes and requirements7. Extensive knowledge of The Salvation Army Philosophy and Policies.PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:Master of Education2 - 5 years Teaching experienceFamiliarity with Hawaii and local culture highly preferred.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:1. Direct operations of the Preschool including, scheduling, curriculum development, planning, implementation, and staff supervision.2. Develop and oversee the Preschool Center's behavior management system and plan for the social-emotional and spiritual growth of the enrolled children. 3. Ensure teacher/parent contact and coordination with the development and management of behavior plans for children.4. Support, supervise and provide training for the implementation of curriculum, daily instruction and classroom management. 5. Train and coach staff in areas related to the academic curriculum, social/emotional and spiritual development of children and classroom management/discipline. 6. Provide guidance and oversight to staff on the development of student goals and weekly lesson plans.7. Excellent leadership and delegation skills.8. Good organizational and management skills.9. Able to interact with children in a loving but firm manner.10. Consistently completes tasks in a timely, thorough manner.11. Must be able to pass a state required physician's report and tuberculosis test.12. Must clear Child Abuse Index and fingerprint clearance with the FBI and Department of Justice.13. Understands proper procedure for reporting suspected child abuse and/or neglect.14. Must live a life of integrity and practice in their own life the spiritual principles and behavior they advocate to children.15. Must have a genuine holistic concern for children including their spiritual, emotional, social, intellectual, and physical well-being.16. Have the ability to work with children, youth, parents, staff, and colleagues in a capacity of leadership, counseling and education, including but not limited to:a. Ability to relate joyfully and sensitively to children of all ages.b. Able to authentically connect relationally with children.c. Sensitivity to the individual needs of children.d. Ability to use appropriate positive discipline consistently.e. Dependability, including maintaining regular and punctual work attendance.f. Ability to handle security and crisis situations, calmly.g. Ability to seek mentoring relationships and use it consistently.h. Ability to supervise staff and participants of varying education and cultures.18. Ability to plan, implement and evaluate programs that will be used to draw children to Jesus and consider The Salvation Army as a church home.19. Able to maintain a professional attitude and approach to problem solving.20. Must be able to keep work area organized, have good time management skills and be able to complete necessary reports in a timely manner.21. Has excellent oral and written communication skills, and can comfortably speak in public and in small group settings.22. Has strong motivational and management skills is a necessity. 23. Ability to work independently or with other staff members.24. Is able to recruit, coordinate, and work with professionals and a team of volunteers.25. Is multi-media savvy and has good working knowledge of computer programs including Word, Excel, Publisher, and PowerPoint.26. Retains a valid driver's license, be able to drive Salvation Army vehicles and pass all necessary background checks.27. Certification by and participation in The Salvation Army's Fleet Safety Program on an annual basis.28. Uphold The Salvation Army Protecting the Mission Policies29. Uphold State Licensing Requirements including Department of Human Services Mandated Reporter responsibilities, and national accreditation standards.30. Manage the daily operation of the Early Childhood Education Center by providing leadership and guidance to the staff.31. Provide direct supervision of the Preschool Staff32. Establish and maintain effective lines of communication with all staff in order to facilitate effective communication.33. Provide curriculum guidance and support to teachers as they plan for each day.34. Ensure the implementation of all policies, procedures and practices to meet The Salvation Army's expectations.35. Assess staff performance on a regular basis, providing leadership and guidance as needed to assist personnel in their continued growth in job performance.36. Conduct annual formal staff evaluations and proceed with all necessary follow-up.37. Resolve personnel problems.38. Set and maintain deadlines for efficient operational functions.39. Schedule all staff to ensure compliance with state guidelines.40. Ensure that proper billing and collections are being done consistently and accurately.41. Stay within the parameters of the budget in all staffing and expenditures.42. Complete and maintain all records as required for state and local agencies as well as The Salvation Army statistical requirements.43. Work closely with the parents of the students and be the main contact for major inquiries or concerns.44. Provide parents with timely and complete information about the happenings of the Preschool and Corps events.45. Be available to parents as needed and reasonable.46. Facilitate positive communication between parents, teachers and other Kona Corps/PS Center staff.47. Maintain confidentiality of family, staff and proprietary information.48. Build and maintain professional rapport with any contract agencies as applicable.49. Collaborate with local schools to facilitate the development to build capacity of the program.50. Maintain opening and closing procedures and assure that they are accomplished daily.51. Familiar with USDA food service and Meal training.OTHER FUNCTIONS:Perform other duties as assigned.MENTAL DEMANDS:1. Work under stressful conditions.2. Complete projects on schedule.PHYSICAL DEMANDS:The position requires sitting; climbing and/or balancing; stooping, kneeling, bending, stretching, crouching and/or crawling; standing; walking; manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; use of vision; driving a vehicle; pushing/pulling/lifting/carrying 25-50 pounds and occasionally more than 50 pounds; traveling by airplane. This employee may also be required to work weekends and evenings.COMMUNICATION DEMANDS:The position requires talking to co-workers, clients, vendors; requires written communication to and from co-workers, clients, vendor; talking on the telephone; requires responding to written or verbal requests of co-workers, clients, and vendors; requires training/giving verbal and written instructions; requires receiving verbal and written instructions; requires writing/composing written language; requires reading; requires visiting/working at other worksites; requires communication via the latest technologies.EQUIPMENT NEEDS:Equipment used includes general office equipment such as computers, photocopiers, scanners, printers, fax machines, telephone (office and cell), video projectors, sound-systems, microphones, audio-visual and lighting equipment, 10-key calculator, and automobile.DESCRIPTION OF WORK ENVIRONMENT:Most work will take place at the The Salvation Army Kona - Ohana Keiki Preschool. Travel is possible, including air travel, driving long distances, night driving, and extended travel of three days or more.NOTES:--- Must have a valid driver's license and insured transportation.--- Will require a criminal history information check.
