Job Description:
Cardiac Invasive Services (CIS/Cath lab) is a 4-procedure room unit
specifically designed to perform invasive diagnostic and
therapeutic cardiac procedures, including structural heart
procedures.
Procedures are performed on both inpatients and outpatients who
have a cardiovascular condition requiring an invasive procedure.
Cardiac Invasive Services regular hours of operation are Monday
through Friday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. The unit is closed on
weekends and holidays observed by The Queen's Medical Center. As
workload dictates, elective procedures can be performed until 7:00
pm Monday through Friday. All other times are reserved for urgent
or emergency procedures and are done by the emergency or on-call
team.
Cardiac catheterization services are provided to patients who range
in age from teenagers to geriatrics.
Staffing
In addition to the physician performing the procedure room is
staffed with 1 Registered Nurse, 1 Cardiovascular Technologist and
1 Radiological Special Procedures Technologist, and 1 Circulator
(RN, CVT or RT).
Scope of Service
-
Cardiac Invasive Services (CIS/EP) is a procedure room of the 4 CIS
rooms specifically designed to perform invasive electrophysiology
procedures
Procedures are performed on both inpatients and outpatients who
have a cardiac electrical condition requiring an invasive
procedure. Cardiac Invasive Services/Electrophysiology regular
hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 7:00
pm. The unit is closed on weekends and holidays observed by The
Queen's Medical Center. As workload dictates, elective procedures
can be performed until 6:00 pm Monday through Friday.
Cardiac electrophysiology services are provided to patients who
range in age from teenagers to geriatrics.
Staffing
In addition to the physician performing the procedure, the room is
staffed with 1 Registered Nurse, 1 Cardiovascular Technologist and
1 Radiological Special Procedures Technologist.
Common diagnoses include:
- - Atrial Arrythmias
- - Heart Blocks
- - Ventricular Arrythmias
Responsibilities
-
I. JOB SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES:
--- - Performs a variety of special radiologic and interventional
procedures.
--- - Provides patient care during procedures.
II. TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
--- - Essential: standing, finger dexterity, seeing, hearing;
lifting and pushing/pulling maximum weight of 50 pounds of force;
carrying usual weight of 10 pounds; reaching above, at and below
shoulder level; repetitive arm/hand motions, static gripping of an
object for prolonged periods, frequent gripping on an object. -
--- - Frequent: walking, speaking. -
--- - Occasional: stooping/bending, kneeling, crawling, climbing
stairs, walking on uneven ground, squatting, twisting body. -
--- - Operates various office/radiographic/hospital equipment.
III. TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
--- - Not substantially subjected to adverse environmental
conditions. -
--- - Subjected to noise/vibration from radiographic equipment
noise. -
--- - Exposure to body fluids, communicable diseases, moving
mechanical parts, chemicals, radiation, odors and skin
irritants.
--- - Work environment is fast paced, frequently stressful; works
on multiple tasks and priorities at the same time and requires
critical decision-making.
--- - Must be able to adjust schedule for "on-call" coverage
involving, but not limited to, evenings, nights, weekends and
holidays.
IV. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A. - EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE:
--- - Current Hawaii State license as a Radiologic
Technologist.
--- - Current status as a Registered Cardiovascular Invasive
Specialist (RCIS) by Cardiovascular Credentialing International
(CCI); or one (1) year Radiologic Special Procedures Technologist
experience in a cardiac catheterization lab and special procedures
may be substituted for the certification requirement.
--- - Current BLS/HCP and ACLS certification. - If not ACLS
certified, ACLS certification must be obtained within ninety (90)
days of entrance into the position.
--- - A.R.R.T. advanced certification preferred.
B. - EXPERIENCE:
--- - Prior Radiologic Special Procedures Technologist experience
in a cardiac catheterization lab preferred.
