The Business Data Architect is responsible for maintaining the
enterprise data management framework- designing, developing and
supporting conceptual business data models to drive common data
semantics/cataloging, data governance decisions and integrated
system solutions. The Business Data Architect will function as a
key liaison between IS (Information Services) and business units,
leveraging deep understanding of business needs and requirements in
order to partner closely with Technical Data Architect in enhancing
data within the Enterprise Data Backbone. Plays a key role across
the Data Governance program, measuring compliance with
standards/policies, driving/monitoring exception remediation and
validating quality enhancements. This role is key in ensuring that
changes to the data environment are in compliance with standards
and governance policies.
Duties and Responsibilities
Business Data Architect will have a solid understanding of
business needs and the Enterprise Data Backbone and the ability to
interpret business requests against existing structures and
capabilities of the Backbone, MDM (Master Data Management)
repository and Analytics/Reporting tools. Responsible for
partnering with IS to deliver data change requests impacting the
enterprise data backbone. Work closely with business users to fully
understand requests, analyze and document impact to existing
objects/structures/reports. Document business requirements and work
closely with Technical Data Architect to ensure requirements and
scope of work is fully understood. Participate in testing as
requested by IS resources.
Implements and drives accountability of data policies and
standards, solicits requirements of business stakeholders for the
Operations Team. Works to identify and implement performance
metrics for the Data Governance program, serving as an escalation
point for Data Stewards regarding queries and issues of data
quality for data managed within the enterprise data backbone.
Responsible for testing coordination. Determines the level of
testing necessary, defines test scenarios and test cases,
coordinates timelines with IS test lead, engages users for UAT test
sessions. Facilitates resolution of any testing bugs, facilitates
and participates in final user sign off for production migration.
Active participant in UAT between IS and end users, validating
changes and ensuring technical design clearly aligns with
Business Data Architect will work directly with analytics end
users to understand complex reporting requirements and make
suggestions on where structural changes would simplify/standardize
reporting requests. Objectively evaluate all data enhancement
requests providing recommendations, feedback or training where
alternative approaches may exist to adequately meet the needs.
Serves as key contact for IS within the business.
Serves as project lead on large initiatives impacting enterprise
data backbone. Lead meetings with internal stakeholders and
external partners to clearly articulate and define impacts to the
enterprise data backbone. Plans and facilitates deliverables needed
to meet project/department goals related to the enhancement of the
enterprise data backbone.
Perform other duties as assigned: Functions as a team player
within the department and embodies collaboration.
Exempt or Non-Exempt Exempt
Bachelor Degree and five (5) years of related work experience;
or an equivalent combination of education and related work
Experience with project delivery, SDLC, requirements definition
and functional/conceptual designs.
Experience with data modeling, data architecture, data
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Strong understanding of databases, data models, data
Basic understanding of data governance principles
Basic problem solving and data collection, analysis, and
Strong understanding of end to end data processes and lifecycle
across various business systems
Strong understanding of OLAP tools.
Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
