Job Description:

Intro:Facebook's mission is to give people the power to build community and bring the world closer together. Through our family of apps and services, we're building a different kind of company that connects billions of people around the world, gives them ways to share what matters most to them, and helps bring people closer together. Whether we're creating new products or helping a small business expand its reach, people at Facebook are builders at heart. Our global teams are constantly iterating, solving problems, and working together to empower people around the world to build community and connect in meaningful ways. Together, we can help people build stronger communities - we're just getting started.Summary:Facebook Reality Labs (FRL) focuses on delivering Facebook's vision through Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR). The compute performance and power efficiency requirements of Virtual and Augmented Reality require custom silicon. Facebook Silicon team is driving the state of the art forward with breakthrough work in computer vision, machine learning, mixed reality, graphics, displays, sensors, and new ways to map the human body. Our chips will enable AR and VR devices where our real and virtual world will mix and match throughout the day. We believe the only way to achieve our goals is to look at the entire stack, from transistor, through architecture, to firmware and algorithms. You will use your background in Machine Learning (ML) to enable efficient h/w acceleration of ML algorithms for Computer Vision (CV) in AR and VR devices. You will also have an unique opportunity to optimize production systems, as well as help future-proof our silicon and software by proactively understanding state of the art research and develop hardware or software solutions to mitigate inefficiencies. To be successful in this role, you should possess strong software development skills, familiarity with ML algorithms and framework/toolchains and hands-on experience in s/w-h/w co-design, especially in the context of ML. This is a 12 week internship with various start dates throughout the year.Required Skills:1. Collaborate with computer architects, software, ML and silicon engineers, to map and optimize ML workloads on various backend targets including CPUs, DSPs and Deep Learning Accelerators. 2. Perform ML algorithm codesign and model optimizations to yield best efficiency for a given hardware backend. 3. Run analysis/profiling , identify performance and power bottlenecks on the actual h/w, virtual platforms, simulators or emulators and provide feedback for optimizations across the entire stack. 4. Codesign/Architect hardware instructions and its corresponding software to address bottlenecks. 5. Develop optimized kernels and port various industry standard ML libraries to backends like customized DSP , CPU and accelerators. 6. Partner with productization software and driver/firmware teams to integrate ML acceleration into shipping software and create any new tools as necessary.Minimum Qualifications:7. Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining, a PhD degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related field 8. 1+ years experience with Python (or similar) scripting 9. 1+ years experience in software design and programming in C/C++ 10. Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire and maintain ongoing work authorization during employmentPreferred Qualifications:11. Experience with h/w acceleration on GPUs/CPUs/DSPs/custom hardware 12. Experience with classic ML, CV algorithms and software frameworks 13. Experience with DeepLearning algorithms like CNN, BERT, RNN and frameworks like Tensorflow, Pytorch 14. Experience with deep learning compilers like tensor-rt or XLA 15. Experience with high performance sw kernel development for customized ISA. 16. Experience with the state of art ML algorithm optimizations like Neural Architecture Search, quantization, pruning etc. 17. Experience with code profiling and debug tools, especially tools in the context of ML 18. Interpersonal experience: cross-group and cross-culture collaboration 19. Intent to return to degree-program after the completion of the internship/co-opIndustry:InternetEqual Opportunity:Facebook is proud to be an Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action employer.
