Position Summary Reporting to the Director, Labor Relations - Flight, this position will represent the Company in grievance proceedings, arbitrations and negotiations; will provide labor relations advice, counsel and training to assist operating divisions in collective bargaining agreement (CBA) interpretation/application, administration of progressive discipline, grievance handling and related activities; will ensure CBAs and disciplinary procedures are consistently enforced across divisions through various dispute resolution means. Key Responsibilities Arbitrations

  • Research, prepare and present the Company's position at union system boards and arbitrations; assist with management of labor arbitration docket; works with union officials or counsel to select arbitrators for arbitration panels and individual cases
  • Manages the System Board process and executive session to provide clarity and to ensure Company position is maintained; may serve as Company-member of System Board as required
  • Acts quickly to generate alternative approaches or strategies to solve particular employee concerns and contractual or union issues
  • Provides advice and counsel on various labor relations matters across all contract workgroups as requiredDivision Consultation
    • Develops and provides Labor Relations training to appropriate management groups in the principles of arbitration and mediation, including preparation and presentation
    • Works with management to improve their effectiveness and consistency in handling Labor Relations and related HR matters
    • Provides consistency in the administration of discipline and grievance process ensuring thorough gathering of facts and evidence, due process and fair treatment, and consistent application of corporate and divisional policies
    • Focuses on responding to and resolving employee issues, disputes and concerns which may be in the form of grievances or pre-grievance procedureOther
      • Assists in analyzing business unit needs to maximize efficiency under existing CBAs, including strategizing desired changes to agreements
      • Provides long term and broad views regarding labor implications of business decisions
      • Aids business unit in anticipating, spotting, and addressing labor relations concerns at the earliest stage
      • Coordinates and participates in the development of strategies and proposals for contract negotiations
      • Develops and delivers presentations to executives and others, as required, on labor strategies, programs, practices, and issues
      • May serve as negotiation team member and/or spokesperson on behalf of the company during the negotiation of CBA(s)
      • May plan, create and implement strategies to attain business goals with respect to labor relations initiatives
      • Juris Doctor from accredited school and 3 + years of experience or Bachelor's degree and 5 + years of Labor Relations Experience
