Customers have the peace of mind of knowing VMware is securing, monitoring, and performing full lifecycle management of the VMC environment while using tools that are familiar to their current I.T. staff. More and more of VMware's customers are choosing this deployment model for consuming VMware software. You will be a member of the VMC on AWS GovCloud SRE team, helping to drive this Hybrid Cloud change across the VMware customer base, and reaching new customers as well. You will join an elite group or SREs, who are important and highly respected members of the core Engineering team. What is the---primary need, technical challenge, and/or problem you will be responsible for?Securing, monitoring, and maintaining the VMC environment to the highest levels of availability, across multiple customers, is the main responsibility of the team. You will be working with your peers in VMC engineering to improve the service offering from the perspective of fleet management and other operations automation capabilities. You will also bring lessons from the customer base and from service operations, back to product development, based on your experience managing the offering for customers. You will harness your existing cloud service operation skills, your software development background, your relentless customer success focus, working with teams across Product Management and Product Development, to maintain 99.99% availability.Success in the Role: What are the performance goals over the first 6-12 months, you will work toward completing?You will be expected to:

  Utilize your DevOps skills and knowledge to handle seamless upgrades of infrastructure and services through automation
  
  
• 
  Come up to speed and learn how to function independently as an SRE on the VMC on AWS GovCloud team
  
  
• 
  You must be adaptable, think fast on your feet, have good instincts and be ambitious to take on more responsibility.
  
  
• 
  Become proficient in use of the tooling used by VMC SRE, to perform fleet
  
  
• 
  management, security patching, incident management and automation software development.

  Use your coding experience to contribute to the operations automation software used by the VMC on AWS GovCloud team and troubleshoot issues with a modern Kubernetes based cloud service
  
  
• 
  Participate in regular on-call shifts responding to service issuesWhat type of work will you be doing? What---assignments or requirements will you be performing on a regular basis?On a regular basis, you will:

  Develop and improve VMC on AWS GovCloud fleet management tooling and other operations automation software for the many customers deployed across the service.

  Review deployment runbooks, identify potential issues, and work with core engineering to ensure timely and quality deployments in production environments

  Work in conjunction with other SREs to respond to, investigate and resolve monitoring alerts from the VMC on AWS GovCloud SaaS service

  Work in conjunction with engineering to perform service upgrades, and troubleshoot production issuesWhat is leadership like for this role? Scott joined VMware almost 4 years ago and has led the Public Sector SRE team from its beginning. He has a background in Public Sector engineering and operations. His goal is to provide customers with the kind of unusually high customer satisfaction and the rock-solid infrastructure security, reliability, and compliance that they should expect from a company with the history and responsibility of VMware.
